Many materials should be used to support literacy learning, a
book being only one of them. To supplement the book created for
this website, I Put My Clothes On,
several support materials were developed to use with the it. These
are only a few examples. Paper dolls were created to provide an
opportunity for the child to demonstrate the clothing vocabulary
and to concept of 'putting on'. This provides a much needed manipulative
component of a literacy lesson. To reinforce cognitive skills
of sequencing, requesting, memory, and simple vocabulary, a picture
schedule was developed. To support communication during the reading
of the book and related activities, a nine cell communication
board was developed. These supportive materials are provided here
to download and use as appropriate, but you are highly encouraged
to go beyond what is here and develop many more. It is hoped that
they will stimulate many more ideas.
