D.E.S.K. (Designing Environments for Successful Kids) A manual packed full of examples of simple, inexpensive, easy to use items and devices that can help children with disabilities experience greater success.  It starts with items for the home environment, the place where children first begin to learn, then moves to early childhood environments, primary grades and upper elementary and secondary schools.  In considering each environment, the manual focuses on the tasks that children are typically attempting to do in those environments.  Technically, all of these items are assistive technology, but the manual is written in a non-technical, easy to understand format that educators can use to introduce the concept of AT to others who may not be aware of it.
DESK manual:  $21 within Wisconsin or $30 outside of Wisconsin, + $5 S&H each see wati.org for ordering

Assessing Students' Needs for Assistive Technology (ASNAT) 3rd Edition ASNAT is designed to help teachers and therapists in the schools.  ASNAT provides a wealth of information about assistive technology.   The first chapter explains both the assessment procedure that WATI teaches and the packet of forms that WATI has developed to support school teams as they complete the assessment process. Numerous resources are provided. Each subsequent chapter provides detailed information on specific assistive technology and its use. Chapters address the tasks that students must be able to do such as write, communicate, read, study, etc. The last chapter contains all of the WATI forms, including the Student Information Guide, Environmental Observation Guide, AT Planning Guide, AT Checklist, and AT Consideration Guide.  These can be reproduced for use by the school district.  The 3rd edition (2000) is completely revised. It is a must for school district teams. Upgrades are available for half price by including the cover insert from your old manual with you order.  One insert required for each upgrade.

ASNAT manual:  $35 within Wisconsin or $50 outside of Wisconsin, + $5 S&H each see wati.org for ordering
